About the Course

“Child and Adolescent Therapy: Science and Art” provides a thorough presentation of the current state of the art in this field, with coverage of the major theoretical orientations and common forms of disturbance. This course offers careful delineation of best practices and empirically supported interventions along with clinically flexible guidelines for doing therapy with individual youth and families. The book is both rigorous and practical, with clear explanations of theory, user-friendly summaries of outcome research, and application of theory and research to a variety of clinical material. Each chapter includes a detailed case study that illustrates the principles and techniques presented in the chapter. The most distinctive feature of the course is its emphasis on integrating outcome research and clinical reasoning in treatment planning.

This course is based on the book, Child and Adolescent Therapy: Science and Art created by Jeremy P. Shapiro, Ph.D., Robert D. Friedberg, Ph.D., and Karen K. Bardenstein, Ph.D.
