About the Course

This course focuses on improving services for mentally ill individuals involved in or with a history of involvement in the criminal justice system. Information is given for mental health providers to review about the workings of the criminal justice system, how it impacts upon the needs of the mentally ill, and how services can be enhanced for those individuals. Specific topics addressed include changing the way the criminal justice system effects the mentally ill, components of the justice system, and cooperative efforts between mental health professionals and the criminal justice system. References are provided for those seeking additional information.

She is also the Director of STEP Technical Assistance and Training. She has extensive experience as a presenter and as a clinician, specializing in the area of persons with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders. Ms. Massaro has authored numerous educational products for human service providers, criminal justice professionals and consumers of mental health services.
