About the Course

Cocaine, whether in powder or smokable “crack” form, is one of the most dangerous drugs on the market today. It can ruin the lives of its users more quickly than almost any other drug, and it can kill with a single dose.

Cocaine use can lead to several different kinds of psychological problems, including the disorders of dependence and abuse as well as drug-induced psychosis, paranoia, and mood swings. Often, these problems overlap; and the user ends up feeling worse than he or she did before taking the drug, despite the promise of euphoria that cocaine offers.

In this book, the psychological disorders related to cocaine and crack are explored, along with the social problems caused or exacerbated by cocaine, and the devastating physical effects on the user’s body. Finally, treatments that offer hope are discussed for people who want to stop cocaine from destroying their lives.

This course is based on the book, Psychological Effects of Cocaine and Crack Addiction created by Carol C. Nadelson, M.D., Claire E. Reinburg, and Ann Holmes
