About the Course:

Explains legal and psychological aspects in helping victims of crime. Examines the development of victimization surveys and costs associated with being a crime victim and becoming involved in the criminal justice system and how the criminal justice system responds to victimization. Discusses particular forms of criminal victimization, including sexual assault and homicide, and surveys victims’ legal rights.

Course Objectives:

  1. Identify issues regarding victimology, extent of criminal victimization, and costs of being a victim.

  2. Explain the plight of victims, and discuss restorative justice.

  3. Compare sexual battery and partner violence.

  4. Analyze problems of child maltreatment and elder abuse.

  5. Discuss homicide victimizations as well as problems with victimization at work and school, then acknowledge the rights of victims.
