About the Course:

Clinical Supervision and Professional Development of the Substance Abuse Counselor is designed to assist clinical supervisors who are either new to this position or wish to improve their skills and administrators interested in establishing a new system of clinical supervision or improving an existing one. In the substance abuse treatment field, clinical supervision is a necessary and essential element in improving client care and contributing to the professional development of clinical staff.

This course is based on the reading-based online, A Review of the Literature (TIP 52, Part 3 – Section 1): From Clinical Supervision and Professional Development of the Substance Abuse Counselor (TIP 52) created by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in 2009.

  2. Recognize the models and modalities of supervision.

  3. Explain the supervisory styles and contributing factors as well as the importance of cross cultural supervision.

  4. Describe the legal and ethical issues in supervision

  5. Evaluate supervisor training and supervision and recall the administrative issues in supervision.
