About the Course

For social workers and other psychotherapy professionals, value conflicts can exist between personal worldviews and Codes of Ethics. The starting point for this course is Spano and Koenig’s proposal of a six-stage model for addressing value conflicts between personal worldviews and the Code of Ethics. This is followed by a series of responses between Adams and Spano/Koenig wherein the authors engage in a vigorous, lively and thought-provoking exchange on this contemporary issue.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, Addressing Value Conflicts Between Personal Worldviews and the NASW Code of Ethics: An Ongoing Discussion Between Spano and Koenig; and Adams created by Richard Spano, Ph.D., Terry Koenig, Ph.D., and Paul Adams, Ph.D.
