As tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of mortality in the United States, differential rates of smoking and use of other tobacco products is a significant contributor to health disparities among some of the most vulnerable people in our society.
Describe the prevalence and social cost of various forms of tobacco use to society, especially with regard to youth, smoking during pregnancy, and tobacco use among individuals having mental disorders.
Explain how tobacco delivers its effects and the resultant physical health consequences for various demographic/age groups.
Discuss current therapeutic efforts, including treatment approaches, preventive strategies, and medications used to support cessation efforts.
