About the Course:
This course covers chapters 4 and 5 of the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT)/SAMHSA publication entitled Substance Abuse Treatment: Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP 51): Addressing the Specific Needs of Women. Chapter 4 covers screening and assessment procedures and recommendations for use with women. Chapter 5 discusses treatment engagement, placement, and planning issues. TIP 51 is an in-depth guide that assists providers in offering screening, assessment, and treatment to women living with substance use disorders. This guide reviews gender-specific research and best practices, such as common patterns of initial use and specific treatment issues and strategies to utilize when working with women who use/abuse substances. Specific recommendations are provided to assist clinicians and administrators in developing and maintaining trauma-informed therapeutic healing programs designed to meet the specific needs of female clients.
